Recall the following:
Answer: x=5
Solution: Multiply both sides by 9:
Simplify:
Subtract x from both sides of the equation:
Add 2 to both sides of the equation:
Divide both sides by 3:
The answer is x=5.
Check the solution by substituting 5 in the original equation for x. If the left side of the equation equals the right side of the equation after the substitution, you have found the correct answer.
You can also check your answer by graphing
(left side of the
original equation minus the right side of the original equation). The
x-intercept is 5.
